The Rise of CNN 2.0?

By jamesbaxley

Now in an earlier post I alluded to the fact that James Murdoch may have been happy that O’Reilly was let go from Fox News. Of course he was, he was a donor to the Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign and her past campaigns; his wife Kathryn Murdoch even worked for the Hillary Clinton.

Fox News is branded as a conservative right-leaning news network, but behind the scenes is a much different story. The majority of the Murdoch clan wanted O’Reilly ousted.

The main players in ousting O’Reilly were Rupert’s sons James Murdoch and Lachlan Murdoch and their wives Sarah Murdoch and Katheryn Murdoch; Lachlan may have been riding the fence on his decision, but eventually succumbed to family pressure.

I’m not going to spend too much time on this but Sarah Murdoch, wife of Lachlan Murdoch and Kathryn Murdoch, wife of James Murdoch were instrumental in getting O’Reilly fired. Sarah Murdoch, Kathryn Murdoch, and James Murdoch were supportive of letting O’Reilly go and had convinced James Murdoch to join in on the O’Reilly hate “group think.”

News reports stated that Rupert Murdoch and his sons, were split on how to deal with O’Reilly. Lachlan Murdoch, James’ older brother was more inclined to keep O’Reilly but with his brother’s disdain for O’Reilly and his wife’s influence, he most likely voted to let O’Reilly go. I think that Lachlan’s actions spoke the loudest such as his disagreement with President Trump’s so-called “Muslim ban” and his immigration policy’s being criticized.

Kathryn Murdoch was currently employed by the Clinton Climate Initiative from 2007 to 2011 as Director of Strategy and Communications, working with former senior advisor for policy development for President Clinton Ira Magaziner (now serves in a leadership capacity for two of the Bill, Hillary, & Chelsea Clinton Foundation's international development initiatives).

21st Century Fox/News Corp. ranks ninth on the list of the top “corporate and union donors to the Clintons over two decades,” according to The Wall Street Journal in 2014.  21st Century Fox has donated a total of $340,936 to her campaigns with James R. Murdoch himself donating between $1,000,001 and $5,000,000 to the Clinton Foundation.

Murdoch’s daughter Elisabeth famously hosted a fundraiser for then Sen. Barack Obama in 2007. According to the Financial Times, Murdoch Sr. threw his own fundraiser for Clinton’s senate reelection campaign in 2006, and donated $2,300 to Clinton’s presidential campaign the following year.

The Financial Times quoted one unnamed source as describing the Clinton-[Rupert] Murdoch connection in this way: "They have a respectful and cordial relationship. He has respect for the work she has done on behalf of New York. I wouldn't say it was illustrative of a close ongoing relationship. It is not like they are dining out together."

This is an example of why you do not mix work with family or politics with family. So O’Reilly was being reckless with his fame at work. You fix that at work and don’t drag it into the family living room. Rupert should’ve told James and Lachlan that work decisions stays at the office and not in the bedroom.

This is the beginning of CNN 2.0.

In a 2014 interview with Fortune, Murdoch goes as far as to admit, “[He] could live with Hillary as President. We have to live with who we get. We don't have any choice.” Murdoch then follows up by stating that his support for Hillary “. . . would depend on the Republican candidate.” But this should come as no surprise to those who follow Murdoch, after all, he supported Ed Koch for mayor of New York City in 1977.
